US Bark Rangers

Want to make your dog part of the adventure while respecting park rules? This program is for you.

Offered at select national and state parks, this program promotes safe and responsible pet use. Each location has slightly different requirements, but typically you’ll chat with a ranger, review the “BARK” principles (Bag waste, Always leash, Respect wildlife, Know where you can go), and sometimes complete a short activity.

At the end, your dog can earn a Bark Ranger badge or tag—and yes, it’s as cute as it sounds. Some locations may not offer an activity or certificate, but you can often purchase a tag in the gift shop. You can find park-specific details using the U.S. Bark Ranger map (available on their website and Facebook group under featured posts). I also recommend joining the Facebook group—members regularly share updates and their own adventures.

The Bark Ranger program is a fun way to include your dog while also learning how to protect these beautiful places.
